Reimagine Lab & Domestic Violence [BLOG]

The root causes of violence are complex and interconnected to many aspects of Californians’ lives. Overcoming the root causes of violence and ultimately breaking the cycle of domestic violence requires the willingness to champion new ideas and forge new partnerships with those working in communities across California.

What is the Reimagine Lab?

The Reimagine Lab was born out of the idea that paving the way to making a difference in the domestic violence field requires developing a new thinking framework. Sponsored by the Blue Shield of California Foundation (https://www.blueshieldcafoundation.org/), the expectation is that this initiative, driven by design as a process with innovation as a goal, will yield new and fresh insights, perspectives, and possibilities. The Reimagine Lab consists of 5 one-day labs and 1 larger two-day summit developed to inspire new approaches to domestic violence prevention for the field, Blue Shield of California Foundation, and other new but important players in the fight to end violence. During these labs, DV stakeholders, victims, and industry leaders will be brought together to learn, ideate, and create.

Who are the fellows?

The fellows are grassroots and sector leaders, practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and community representatives (including those affected by violence) who all share the passion to collaboratively ideate, create, and end domestic violence. The fellows have all opted to take time out of their busy lives to bounce ideas off of each other, soak in each others industries and processes, and ultimately come together to blueprint new ways to tackle DV.  The selected fellows are:

  • Rabeya Sen – Esperanza Community Housing Corporation
  • Rain McNeill – California Rural Indian Health Board
  • Navya Kaur – Society of Women Engineers, San Jose State University
  • Sandra Henriquez – California Coalition Against Sexual Assault
  • Chris Masilon – Anaheim Police
